Women's Volleyball Silences Penn College, 3-0

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Wells College women's volleyball team posted the third-most single match service aces in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Penn College. The Express move to 5-6 overall on the year and remain undefeated in NEAC play with a 2-0 record. Penn College falls to 1-13 while posting their third-straight conference loss (0-3).

Wells won via set scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-12 and will take on the host Chargers from Lancaster Bible College Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Sophomore Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo (Hilo, Hawaii) led the way with 11 kills on 27 total attacks while setter Eliza Schwab (Hartland, N.Y.) set up 13 of her team's kills. Defensively, libero Olyvia Brazier (Stony Brook, N.Y.) registered seven digs.

Other members of the team had strong contributions, including senior Evelyn Abbott (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) who racked up a career-high 10 assists for Wells. All players combined for 19 service aces as senior Nicole Loeven (Pawling, N.Y.) and classmate Zakarra Butts (Cortland, N.Y.) each hammered home six.

In the first set, Butts rattled off four-straight service aces to lift her team to a 23-7 lead. A kill from Brazier led to set point, leading 24-8, but the Express allowed two-straight points before a Penn College service error put Wells ahead in the match, 1-0.

Wells almost limited the Wildcats to a single-digit point total in the second set, but the Wildcats were ultimately defeated 25-16. Butts once again led Wells on a lengthy scoring streak, contributing back-to-back service aces with her team ahead 14-6.

Loeven took charge in the third set, taking over serving duties at 6-3 and keeping her team's strong performance going by serving until an attacking error at 12-4, Wells. Loeven, however, put an exclamation point on the match with a service ace at match point to seal the victory.
