Women's Volleyball Collects Straight-Set Win vs. SUNY Delhi

AURORA, N.Y. – In the first-ever contest in the newly-renovated Farenthold Athletic Wing, the Wells College women's volleyball team posted a straight-set victory over the Broncos of SUNY Delhi on Wednesday. With the win, Wells moves to 7-6 overall following the non-league tilt while the Broncos move to 10-3.

Sophomore Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo (Hilo, Hawaii) led the way for the Express with 10 digs and nine kills. Classmate Eliza Schwab (Hartland, N.Y.) set up 25 of her team's 36 kills while sophomore Olyvia Brazier (Stony Brook, N.Y.) pounded home five service aces. Freshman Amanda Springer (Norwood, Mass.) had a strong net-front presence for Wells, leading the way with four assisted blocks.

In the first set, Wells opened up a 6-0 lead as Brazier pounded home three of her five service aces during that span. With Schwab serving at 15-10, she piloted her team to three-straight points before yielding to Brazier at 18-12, who served for three-straight points of her own. A Leite-Ah Yo kill at set point lifted the Express to an early 1-0 lead.

The Broncos rallied and nearly tied the second set as a Wells attack error cut the visitors' deficit to 19-18. Schwab, however, posted a kill and later added back-to-back service errors at 22-18 to set up match point. An attacking error by SUNY Delhi clinched the second set for the Express.

The Express opened up an impressive 20-9 lead in the third set, but the Broncos rallied to cut the score to 23-18. A kill by senior Vashti Nettles (Long Beach, Calif.) preceded a match-ending service ace by Brazier to clinch the tilt for Wells, 3-0.

Kaylee Meehan led SUNY Delhi with six kills while Joy Clark registered 15 assists for the visitors. Defensively, Morgan Salsman posted 13 digs for the Broncos.

Wells will play non-conference Keystone on Saturday, Sept. 26 in a 2 p.m. road contest.
