Nettles Picks Up NEAC Co-Player of the Week Honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Senior Vashti Nettles (Long Beach, Calif.) picked up North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Co-Player of the Week honors after a dominant performance in the Wells College women's volleyball team's two victories this past Saturday. The Express defeated D'Youville in straight-sets before knocking off Westminster (Pa.) in five sets.

Nettles was a standout performer for the Express, hammering home 44 kills while committing only 14 errors on 101 total attacks for a .297 attacking percentage. Against Westminster (Pa.), Nettles set a team record with 27 kills on offense only one match removed from posting 17 kills, the most-ever in a three-set match by an Express player.

Against the Titans, Nettles helped the Express mount a tremendous comeback in the fifth set after trailing by a 7-1 margin. In the fifth set alone, Nettles registered six kills on 13 swings to provide a much-needed boost. The Express have now won 10 of its last 11 games with their only blemish coming in a five-set, non-conference loss to Keystone.

Nettles finished the weekend with per-set averages of 5.50 kills and 5.7 points, leaving her second in the conference in both categories for the season at 3.44 kills and 4.0 points per set, respectively.  She also leads the conference in total kills (241) and total points (280) for the Express. For her career, she has recorded 563 kills in 192 sets played and leads all players in team history with a .264 career attacking percentage.

Wells returns to action Saturday, Oct. 17 as they face-off against Morrisville State and SUNY Poly, two North Eastern Athletic Conference programs at 12 and 2 p.m., respectively, on the campus of Keuka College.
