Women's Volleyball Splits Saturday NEAC Slate

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Wells College women's volleyball team picked up a straight-set victory over Morrisville State College before falling in four sets to the SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Saturday. Following the split against its North Eastern Athletic Conference rivals, Wells finishes the double dip with a 13-8 overall record and a 7-1 mark within league play.

Wells defeated Morrisville State via scores of 25-21, 25-10 and 25-20 before SUNY Poly handed the Express its first NEAC defeat of the year, 28-26, 25-16, 22-25 and 25-13. The loss is only Wells' third regular season conference loss in the previous two seasons and its first since a 3-2 defeat at Lancaster Bible on Oct. 17, 2014.

Against the Mustangs from Morrisville State, senior Vashti Nettles (Long Beach, Calif.) posted a team-leading 10 kills on 18 swings, committing only two errors. Sophomore Eliza Schwab (Hartland, N.Y.) set up 27 of her team's 37 kills while sophomore Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo (Hilo, Hawaii) posted 11 digs defensively, narrowly missing a double-double with nine kills for the Express.

Wells limited Morrisville State to only 15 kills on offense. The Express also posted 10 service aces on the afternoon, their most since hammering home 11 against Keystone on Sept. 26. By hitting .247 as a team on Saturday, the Express have hit above the .200 mark for the seventh-straight match.

Versus SUNY Poly, Nettles once again led the team with 16 kills on offense. Schwab posted 33 assists while joining Leite-Ah Yo and junior Nadine Pershyn (Buffalo, N.Y.) with 10 digs apiece. Schwab was also efficient on her attacks, posting four kills on eight errorless attacks, while Leite Ah-Yo was only one kill short of a double-double for the second-straight match.

The Wildcats had three players record at least 11 kills and four players tally at least 12 digs en route to the victory. SUNY Poly committed only 20 attacking errors while putting 54 balls on the floor, the second-most kills by any Wells opponent on the season.

Wells returns to action this Sunday, Oct. 18 as they take on the Fighting Tigers from SUNY Cobleskill at high noon on the campus of Keuka College.
