Wells Opens Home Season With Comeback Win Over Houghton

The Wells College women's volleyball team played its first home match of the season on Friday, Sept. 9 and rallied for a 3-1 victory over Houghton College at the Schwartz Center. The Express dropped the first set but rallied to take the next three. Set scores were 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21. Wells is now 2-3 on the year and Houghton is 2-2.

The visiting Highlanders led most of the way and took the first set. Wells responded with a close victory in the second set. The Express built a 23-16 lead, but Houghton closed the margin and tied the set at 23-23. Wells closed out the match with a kill from Olyvia Brazier and a kill from Jackie Allen.

In the third set, Wells trailed 18-12, but went on a 13-3 run and won 25-21. The fourth set featured a run in the middle of the proceedings as Wells turned an 8-7 deficit into a 21-14 lead.

For the match, Jackie Allen had 16 kills and hit .293 She also had five digs and an ace. Eliza Schwab had 36 assists and 13 digs, with one solo block and three assisted blocks. Nadine Pershyn led the Express with 16 digs.

Wells continues play with home matches Saturday. The Express will face Clarks Summit at 11 a.m. and then takes on Maine-Fort Kent at 1 p.m.
