Perfect Weekend As Women's Volleyball Opens NEAC Play With Three Wins

The Wells College women's volleyball team ran its overall winning streak to six consecutive matches and began North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a three-match sweep against NEAC opponents on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18 in matches at Bryn Athyn, Pa. The Express won in straight sets on Saturday against The College of St. Elizabeth and on Sunday morning against host Bryn Athyn College. Wells completed the sweep with a 3-1 win over Penn State-Abington.

Including the first two matches and opening two sets of the match against Penn State-Abington, and dating back to the previous weekend's win over Maine-Fort Kent, Wells compiled a streak of 11 consecutive set wins.

Wells is 7-3 overall and stands alone in first place of the NEAC with a perfect 3-0 record. Wells continues conference play Sept. 23-24 with matches against Lancaster Bible, Penn College and Penn State-Berks in matches hosted by Keuka College.

Wells 3, St. Elizabeth 0

Wells defeated St. Elizabeth by scores of 25-14, 25-18, 25-17. The Express recorded 16 points over the match by service aces. Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo had 10 kills and hit .389 in the match with one assist and three service aces and seven digs. Eliza Schwab had 17 assists and a team-high five aces. Olyvia Brazier had four aces to go with seven kills, and Kasie Stamp served three aces. Amanda Springer had one solo block and teamed with Eliza Schwab for an assisted block.

Wells 3, Bryn Athyn 0

On Sunday morning, Wells got off to a winning start by set scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-14. For the second match in a row, Leite-Ah Yo led Wells in kills with nine. Jackie Allen had six gills, Springer had five and Brazier had four. Nadine Pershyn led Wells with 10 digs and Springer was a presence at the net with one solo block and two assisted blocks. Schwab had 23 assists and Wells served 12 aces, led by six service aces from Allen.

Wells 3, Penn State-Abington 1

Wells closed its winning weekend by defeating Penn State-Abington 25-9, 25-22, 25-27, 25-17. The Express had 45 kills in the four-set win, and hit .183 as a team, its highest hitting percentage of the weekend. Leite-Ah Yo had 12 kills to lead Wells, and Springer and Meredith Kadjeski had eight kills each. Schwab led Wells with 30 assists. Leite-Ah Yo had 21 digs for Wells, while Brazier had 13 and Pershyn had 12. Springer had one solo block and two assisted blocks.
