Women's Volleyball Wins Twice In Non-Conference Matches

The Wells College women's volleyball team picked up a pair of non-conference victories on Saturday, Oct. 8 in matches hosted by Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Mass. In the opening match of the day for the Express, Wells defeated Johnson State College (Vt.) in straight sets by scores of 25-7, 25-12, 25-15. Wells closed the afternoon with a win over the host MCLA Trailblazers in five sets. Wells claimed the victory with scores of 25-15, 25-16, 12-25, 23-25, 15-9.

Wells has won five matches in a row and seven of eight overall. The Express is 14-5 on the season and returns to action Saturday, Oct. 15 with a North Eastern Athletic Conference matchup against Wilson College at Gallaudet University.

Wells 3, Johnson State 0

In the first match of the day, Wells made quick work of the Johnson State Badgers. A total of 13 players saw action for Wells in the straight-set win. The Express hit .239 as a team and served up 16 aces, led by four from Renee Bartosz and three from Annabelle Lee. Four players had four kills each. Kasie Stamp had 10 assists.

Wells 3, MCLA 2

The Express won the first two sets before Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts won the third set, and then edged the fourth set by a two-point margin. Wells captured the decisive set 15-9 by winning six of the last seven points. In that run, MCLA committed two three attack errors, and the winning point went to Wells on a kill from Meredith Kadjeski.

Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo had 12 kills to lead Wells, and Olyvia Brazier and Kadjeski had 11 kills each. Eliza Schwab had 43 assists. Brazier, Jackie Allen, and Kadjeski each had a solo block. Four players had 16 or more digs, led by Schwab with 20. Leite-Ah Yo had 19 digs, Nadine Pershyn had 17 digs and Allen had 16.
