Four-Set Win For Women's Volleyball Over Elmira

The Wells College women's volleyball team rallied back from one set down to claim a four-set victory over Elmira College on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at the Schwartz Athletic Center. Set scores were 19-25, 26-24, 25-18, 25-22.

Wells pushed its overall record over .500 for the first time this season and stands at 9-8 overall through the first 17 matches of the year. Elmira is 7-11 overall.

Two players went for double-digit kills in the match for the Express as Rachel Anderson smashed 16 kills and Jazzmyne Williams finished 13 points. Williams had just two hitting errors in the match for a .367 hitting percentage.

Elmira claimed the opening set 25-19. Wells held an early 5-2 lead in the set but Elmira won seven of the next eight points and led the rest of the way.

It took extra points to decide the second set. Wells raced out to an 8-2 lead and held its largest lead at 19-10. Elmira stormed back with a late run and leveled the score 23-23. Wells won three of the next four points on a kill from Anderson, a kill from Williams and a service ace from Lorissa Parks to win 26-24. Wells had 17 kills and hit .170 in the second set.

The third set was a 25-18 win for the Express. Wells hit .286 in the set, and Elmira had eight kills against 11 hitting errors.

The Express wrapped things up in the fourth set with four kills from Lakshmi Martin and three block assists from Rachel Anderson to take it by a 25-22 score.

Jordan Stoops had 25 assists and Lorissa Parks had 17 assists in the match. Maritza Scharoun had one solo block and four block assists. Amanda Springer had five block assists. Springer, Williams, and Nanako Otsuka each served two aces. Williams had 15 digs and Otsuka had 14 digs.

Wells plays North Eastern Athletic Conference matches this weekend against Gallaudet University and Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Lancaster Bible.
