Women’s Volleyball Team Splits at Penn State

The Wells College women's volleyball team traveled to Pennsylvania with a pair of matches against Pen State-Harrisburg and Penn State-Abington on Saturday, Oct. 12. The scores to both matches were 3-1 with the Express beating Harrisburg and dropping to Abington.

In the victory against Harrisburg, Wells took the first two sets by scores of 25-22 and 26-24. Harrisburg took the third set at 25-16 before the Express regrouped for a fourth set 25-21 win to seal the match.

Jackie Allen and Jordan Stoops led the attack with 31 combined kills. Stoops also assisted on 18 kills and added 13 digs, while Allen had 15 digs and a team-high four aces. Current NEAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week Maritza Scharoun registered eight blocks (two solo) as the blocks leader, while Lorissa Parks led the team in assists with 22 and Gabby Rivera led the team in digs with 21. Parks also added 19 digs, while Nanako Otsuka added 10.

Against Abington, the Express rallied to tie the match at 1-1 before falling. After a close first set went to Abington at 25-23, Wells took the second set at 28-26. The third set was just a close at 25-23 making the first three sets decided by just a pair of points. Abington took the fourth by a 25-19 count.

Allen led the team in kills with 24, while Stoops had the highest assist total at 26. Rivera finished with a team-high 23 digs. Jazzmyne Williams earned a pair of blocks (one solo) and finished second to Allen in kills with 16. Parks led the team in aces with three and finished second in assists with 21. Allen added 17 digs. Three others hit double-digits in digs and included Otsuka (13), Stoops (12) and Allen (11).

The women's volleyball team remains on the road with its next matchup at Brockport on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
