Women’s Volleyball Team Rallies Twice for Five-Set Win Over LBC

The Wells College women's volleyball team split a pair of conference matches at Keuka College on Saturday, Oct. 19. The Express finished the day by rallying twice against Lancaster Bible College with a 3-2 win after opening play by dropping a 3-1 match to Gallaudet University.

In the exciting win where the Express came from behind twice, current NEAC Women's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week Jackie Allen led the attack with 25 kills and added 16 digs.

Wells lost the first set by 25-17 and needed extra play to draw even at 1-1 after two sets with a 27-25 win. Lancaster Bible College took its second match lead at 2-1 with a close 26-24 win, but the Express won the last two sets to claim the match after a 25-23 win in the fourth set and 15-5 win in the fifth.

Jordan Stoops had a team-high 28 assists against the Chargers and added 14 digs and a pair of aces. Defensively, Gabby Rivera led the team in digs with 20, while Maritza Scharoun registered six blocks with four being solo.

Jazzmyne Williams added 11 kills and Lorissa Parks added 10 digs to go with 15 assists to help in the win over Lancaster Bible.

In the opening match against Gallaudet, Wells fell behind 2-0 before drawing within a set only to go down 3-1.

Three Wells players recorded double-digits in multiple categories against the Bison. Allen had 20 kills and 14 digs, Stoops recorded 25 assists and 11 digs and Parks added 16 assists to go with 13 digs.

Co-leading the team in digs with 17 were Rivera and Nanako Otsuka, while Williams registered 13 kills. Scharoun recorded eight blocks with three being solo to give her 14 on the day.

The women's volleyball team will next travel to Oswego State on Wednesday, Oct. 23 for a 7 p.m. start in a non-conference match.
