Middlebrook Leads Express At SUNYIT Wildcat Invitational

MARCY, N.Y. – Reigning North Eastern Athletic Conference Runner of the Year Emily Middlebrook (Newark, N.Y.) posted a time of 20:51.9, leading the Wells College women's cross country team to a sixth place finish at the sixth annual SUNYIT Wildcat Invitational Saturday afternoon. As a team, the Express finished with 145 points, placing them sixth in the 16 team field. William Smith College captured first place overall (42 points) in the race as four of their five qualifying scorers finished within the top-10.

Middlebrook finished in fourth place overall as an individual after finishing fifth at the invitational last season. Freshman runner Liza Gerwig (Painted Post, N.Y.), competing in her first collegiate meet, posted a time of 22:37 in the 5K race, placing 21st overall in the field. Sophomore Anastasia Benson (Rockford, Ill.) placed 42nd, completing the race with a time of 24:18.6.

Freshman Jessica Bye (Jordan, N.Y.) and sophomore Lindsey Guzewicz (Auburn, N.Y.) rounded out the top-50 finishers for the Express, posting times of 24:28.3 and 24:36.7, respectively. Freshman Davina Jones (Gouverneur, N.Y.) missed cracking the top-50, placing 51st overall with a time of 24:46.8. Freshman Katie Lamanna (Constableville, N.Y.) finished one place behind Jones, completing the course in 24:47.3.

Sophomore Veronica Frisenda (Patterson, Calif.) finished in 70th place (25:58.7) while senior Brienne Goodson (Deansboro, N.Y.) captured 73rd place (26:05.6). Senior Sarah Deschenes (Keene, N.H.) rounded out the runners for the Express, posting a time of 31:42.3 to finished 115th.
