Women's Cross Country Places 21st At Yellow Jacket Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore Emily Middlebrook (Newark, N.Y.) led the Express for the third-straight week as the Wells College women's cross country team posted a 21st place finish (out of 23 competing squads) at the University of Rochester Yellow Jacket Invitational Saturday afternoon at Genesee Valley Park. With only 15 points, Cornell University placed first as a team in the 6K race.

Running at a 6:27 minute mile pace, Middlebrook placed 97th out of 360 competing runners to lead the squad with a time of 24:02.8. Freshman Liza Gerwig (Painted Post, N.Y.), competing in her first collegiate 6K race, placed second overall on the Express by posting a time of 27:18.2 to place 308th. The next six Wells runners finished within 10 places of each other, led by sophomore Anastasia Benson (Rockford, Ill.) who finished with a time of 28:15.5. Lindsey Guzewicz (Auburn, N.Y.) finished 2.3 seconds behind Benson, placing 326th overall.

Freshman Davina Jones (Gouverneur, N.Y.), competing in her second competition of the year, posted a time of 28:34.1. Jessica Bye (Jordan, N.Y.) placed 330th overall with a time of 28:34.9, averaging a 7:40 mile pace. Veronica Frisenda (Patterson, Calif.) and Katie Lamanna (Constableville, N.Y.) finished back-to-back, posting times of 28:40.2 and 28:41.9, respectively. Senior Brienne Goodson (Deansboro, N.Y.) and Sarah Deschenes (Keene, N.H.) completed the course in 29:48.0 and 33:35.4, respectively. Marie Valliere (Chicopee, Mass.) rounded out the competitors for the Express, posting a time of 33:57.9.
