Women’s Cross Country Finishes Fifth At CCO Championship

GENEVA, N.Y. – Sophomore Emily Middlebrook (Newark, N.Y.) placed fourth overall amongst the field as the Wells College women's cross country team posted a fifth place finish at the Cross Country Only Championship, hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges. William Smith captured first place with only 44 points, averaging a time of 20:09.57.

Freshman Liza Gerwig (Painted Post, N.Y.) placed second on the squad, finishing the 5K run with a time of 22:23.20. Sophomore Lindsey Guzewicz (Auburn, N.Y.) finished 53rd overall with a time of 22:27.85 while Katie Lamanna (Constableville, N.Y.) finished one place behind Guzewicz with a time of 22:29.77. Anastasia Benson (Rockford, Ill.) finished in 55th place with a time of 22:35.56.

Brienne Goodson (Deansboro, N.Y.) and Veronica Frisenda (Patterson, Calif.) finished 62nd and 71st, respectively, with times of 22:57.75 and 23:20.31. Freshman Jessica Bye (Jordan, N.Y.) contributed a time of 23:23.21 with classmate Davina Jones (Gouverneur, N.Y.) finishing 86th overall with a time of 24:04.58. Senior Sarah Deschenes (Keene, N.H.) rounded out the field with a time of 26:54.01, finishing 132nd.

The Express return to action Oct. 20, 2012 as they host the Wells College Invitational on the campus of Wells College in Aurora, N.Y.
