Cross Country Trio Competes At NCAA Regionals

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore Emily Middlebrook (Newark, N.Y.) joined freshmen Katie Lamanna (Constableville, N.Y.) and Stephen Armstrong (Erin, N.Y.) this past Saturday and competed in the at the 2012 NCAA Division III Cross Country Atlantic Regionals, held at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, N.Y. on Saturday. This year marks the second-straight season the Express have sent runners to the NCAA Regionals.

Middlebrook, competing in regionals for the second time in her career, placed 68th overall as an individual in the 6K course, recording a time of 23:37.1. Her 6K time of 23:37.1 is a personal best, shattering her previous career high mark of 24:02.8 set on the same course in the University of Rochester Invitational on Sept. 15 of this season.

In 2011, Middlebrook placed 112nd overall amongst the 256 competitors at the 2011 NCAA Division III Atlantic Regionals, hosted by Saint Lawrence University on Nov. 12, 2011. Middlebrook, recipient of North Eastern Athletic Conference Runner of the Year honors for the second-straight year, has led the Express in all 16 races since joining the team as a freshman in 2011.

Lamanna placed 245th as an individual, recording a time of 27:45.2, eclipsing her previous career best 6K mark of 28:41.9, set at the University of Rochester Invitational on Sept. 15 of this season. She concludes her season making appearances in all eight team races on the year for the Express, making her first collegiate appearance on Sept. 1 at the SUNYIT Wildcat Invitational. She ranked second on the Express at the Wells College Invitational on Oct. 20, ranking second behind Middlebrook with a time of 23:52.77.

Competing as the lone entrant from Wells College in the men's 8K race, Armstrong recorded a time of 29:17.8, placing first amongst all non-affiliated runners. Amongst the field of 297 runners, Armstrong's time placed him 211st overall. His 8K time this afternoon was the second-best of his career. Armstrong placed second in all eight team events on the year for the Express, recording a season-best 8K time at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational on Sept. 29 by completing the course in 28:55.
