Mission Statement

The Wells College sports medicine staff strives to provide every student-athlete with the most comprehensive and highest quality health care available. The department will offer this care in a professional, efficient and compassionate manner. The primary goal of the sports medicine department is to create a positive healthy recovery experience, an improved quality of life and a safe return to full athletic participation with continued athletic success. Any care given will be in support of the Athletic Department's goals and mission as well as the mission of Wells College.

A full-time certified athletic trainer works in conjunction with the college’s team physicians. Together they provide a prompt and comprehensive medical care to all Wells College student-athletes.  The athletic training staff’s responsibilities include covering practice and competition as well as traveling with the team as deemed appropriate. Specifically, each athletic trainer is responsible for evaluating and assessing athletic injuries, administering first aid and injury care, making medical referrals and establishing treatments and the rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries/illnesses. The staff also spends a significant amount of time in the education of student-athletes with respect to injury prevention, nutrition and psychological support in dealing with injuries. Both athletic trainers are certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association and licensed by the state of New York.
