EXPRESS SHOW IMPROVEMENT ON DAY 2 OF NEAC GOLF CHAMPIOSHIP

EXPRESS SHOW IMPROVEMENT ON DAY 2 OF NEAC GOLF CHAMPIOSHIP

Pennsauken, NJ- The Wells Express finished in 8th place at the NEAC golf championship over the weekend of April 21st and 22nd.  On a beautiful and sunny opening day the express were unable to build on the progress of their previous tournaments.  The express struggled to keep their tee balls in bounds and out of the trees at the tight Pennsauken Country Club.  However, their spirits were not swayed as they were eager to get back on the course for final day of the tournament.

The sunny skies and high temperatures changed drastically on championship Sunday.  The express arrived determined to improve on their scores from the previous day despite the soaking rains, high winds, cold temperatures and flags tucked in deep corners of the greens.

The golf's team determinations paid off as the express were one of only 3 schools to improve in the tougher conditions.  Furthermore, the express cut more strokes than any other team at the 8 team tournament. Sophomore Taylor Dunn (Williamstown, MA) led the way for the express as he cut 6 strokes and shot the 4th lowest score on Sunday (out of 40 golfers).  Taylor Dunn was not the lone golfer to improve his score, as the entire Wells team improved on their scores in the difficult conditions.  First time NEAC Championship golf participants Tyler Walker (Lockwood, NY) improved by 12 strokes, Kelli Furney (Camden, NY) improved by 4 strokes, and Erich Kaempffe (North Rose, NY) improved by 5 strokes.   Senior Justin Rigney (New York, NY) improved by 3 strokes and said that it "could have been a lot better, but you can never be upset with improvement."

As the express start to get ready for their fall 2012 season, Justin had these comments about his 4 years of golf at Wells College; "these past 4 years have been great.  I've improved every year and I knew at some point that I would have to start paying for golf."
