Women’s Swimming Team Victorious on Senior Day

The Wells College women's swimming team came away with a victory against visiting SUNY Delhi on Saturday, Jan. 25 by a 50-35 score on a day where the Express honored its seniors.

Caroline Kelemen, Asa Cade and Shannon Simmons were acknowledged just prior to the event's start and were presented action photos from head coach Trish George.

Saoirse Murphy-Collins had the best day for the women's team with a pair of first-place finishes and also as part of a winning relay team. Murphy-Collins won the 1000 freestyle with a 12:24.44 time and then captured the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:02.15. Her 1000 freestyle time was good enough to crack the school's all-time top-10 best times in that event with the eighth-best.

Murphy-Collins teamed with Hailey Onofre, Nicole D'Aurizio and Simmons for a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a 2:18.42 time.

Three of the four members of that relay team also won individual events. In addition to the pair of individual wins by Murphy-Collins, D'Aurizio captured the 200 IM (2:55.43) and Simmons won the 200 back (2:46.31).

The women's swimming team wraps up the regular season on the road next weekend at William Smith College with a tri-meet with Cazenovia College with a 1 p.m. start. After that, the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championships begin Feb. 14.
