Houghton's Late Goal Downs Field Hockey, 2-1

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Freshman Nicole Sales (Woodbury, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal to tie the score early in the second half but a late goal by Houghton College downed the Wells College field hockey team, 2-1, on Wednesday. With the loss, Wells dips to 0-3 on the year while Houghton (2-1) picks up their second victory.

Trailing by a 1-0 margin exiting halftime, Sales picked up the equalizer after forcing home a feed from junior Courtney Bastian (West Winfield, N.Y.). With five goals on the year via 12 total shots taken, Wells was able to power two shots in the final 17 seconds of the contest but the Houghton penalty corner defense silenced any chance of a last second comeback.

Kristin McKane tallied both of her team's goals, the first coming in the 22nd minute and the last coming with only 5:21 remaining in regulation time. Emma Strehle picked up an assist on McKane's first goal.

Wells goaltender Sydney Line (Northport, N.Y.) once again had a strong performance in net, making eight saves. Houghton's Elizabeth Piszker allowed one goal on the only shot that she faced.

The Express return to action Sunday, Sept. 7 as they face-off against Morrisville State in a 5:00 p.m. road game. Fans are reminded that Morrisville State charges admission for the majority of their home contests.
