Women's Tennis Earns 6-3 Victory Over Utica

UTICA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's tennis team maintained its winning streak against Utica with a 6-3 road victory over the Pioneers on Saturday. Wells wraps up the fall portion of its schedule with a 1-2 overall record while Utica falls to 0-7 overall.

The Express has won its last five matches against Utica and 10 of its last 11 matches versus the Pioneers since an 8-1 home win on Oct. 3, 2001. Wells holds an 11-8 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools.

Senior Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) partnered with sophomore Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) at No. 1 doubles to defeat their counterpart by an 8-1 score. Senior Kevisha Hunt (Germantown, Md.) and junior Nicole Sanborn (Onondaga, N.Y.) defeated Utica's No. 2 duo by an 8-1 score as well, sending the Express into singles play leading the match by a 2-1 margin.

After Benedetto's No. 1 singles opponent retired, the Express saw victories by Maturine at No. 2 singles, Hunt at No. 3 singles and Sanborn at No. 4 singles to clinch the victory.

Benedetto concludes the fall season with a 3-0 individual record at Wells' top singles flight while joining Maturine with an unblemished mark (3-0) in No. 1 doubles play. Hunt and Sanborn also boast an undefeated record, capturing two wins in as many matches as doubles partners.

Wells will resume play in the spring, taking on Houghton in a 1 p.m. road match on Saturday, Mar. 19, 2016.
