Men’s and Women’s Swimming Compete Versus Cobleskill

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's and women's swimming programs competed against the Fighting Tigers from SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday within the Wells College Aquatic Center. The Express notched a 48-47 victory over the Fighting Tigers on the women's side of the program while the men's swimmers from Wells were edged by SUNY Cobleskill by a 50-27 margin.

Wells opened the meet with a bang, posting a first place finish in the Women's 200 Yard Medley Relay. The foursome of freshman Melanie Canales (Burlington, Mass.), freshman Gina Ross-Detro (Geneva, N.Y.), senior Hallie Hanson (Ashville, N.Y.) and senior captain Britta Kilbourn (Scotia, N.Y.) posted a time of 2:18.18 to edge their Cobleskill counterparts by nearly 10 full seconds.

In the men's 200 Yard Medley Relay, the Wells foursome of junior Alex Lamphear (Springfield, N.H.), junior Tyler Fischetti (Weedsport, N.Y.), senior captain Matthew Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) and freshman Lucas Donnenwirth (Frankfort, N.Y.) recorded a time of 2:01.19 to place first by nearly 12 seconds. Sleezer went on to place first as an individual in the Men's 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:58.16.

Freshman Amelia Flint (Bath, N.Y.) and Kilbourn finished "one-two" in the Women's 200 Yard Freestyle, posting times of 2:18.29 and 2:21.50, respectively, to earn eight points for Wells. Junior Olive Touron (Cato, N.Y.) posted a first place time in the Women's 50 Yard Freestyle, completing her up-and-down in 27.63 seconds. Touron answered again later in the meet, scoring a top finish in the Women's 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:02.34 while Flint posted a 6:07.12 time in the Women's 500 Yard Freestyle.

Ross-Detro secured a first place finish in the Women's 100 Yard Butterfly after notching a time of 1:18.68, her best finish in the event on the year. She added another first place finish in the Women's 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:21.62.

Fischetti, swimming alone in the Men's 400 Yard Individual Medley, scored five points for Wells with a time of 5:17.67 while Sleezer and Lamphear finished back-to-back in the Men's 500 Yard Freestyle, placing first (5:36.68) and second (6:03.25).

This afternoon's meet marked the final home swim meet for graduating seniors Sleezer, Kilbourn and Hanson.

The Express return to action this Saturday, Jan. 18 as they face-off against Mansfield and Pitt.-Bradford at the Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center in Bradford, Pa. beginning at 1:00 p.m.
