'On This Day' Thomas Earns All-Conference Honors at AWCC Championships

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Feb. 4, fourteen years ago in 2007.

PITTSBURGH, PA. – Erica Thomas highlighted the weekend's results for the Express earning second team all-conference honors with two second-place finishes in freestyle events at the 2007 Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference (AWCC) Championships hosted by Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pa. that concluded Feb. 4, 2007.

In the 100 freestyle finals, Thomas was just 1.2 seconds shy of the win with a time of 1:00.03. In the 500 freestyle, Thomas was seeded sixth in the race but recorded a season-best time of 6:00.10 to claim second. She also placed fourth in both the 200 freestyle and 200 breaststroke events.

Colleen Keegan earned an eighth-place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 13:54.90 and a 10th-place time of 6:48.38 in the 500 freestyle. She also placed 14th in the 200 free and 15th in the 100 free on the weekend.

Classmates Kelsey Stafford and Breanna Rolland finished right behind Keegan in both the 100- and 200- freestyle events. Stafford was 15th in the 200 free and 17th in the 100 free, while Rolland took the 16th spot in both events. Stafford also claimed 10th in the 1000 freestyle and 12th in the 500 free. Rolland completed the 200 and 100 butterfly in 12th and 13th place, respectively.

Katya Zavala placed 11th for the Express in the 100 breaststroke and 15th in the 200 individual medley, while Sierra Stiller-Saiger finished right behind Zavala in the 100 breaststroke and also took 13th in the 200 breaststroke.

Other teams that competed with Wells included the host Cougars, College of Notre Dame, Hood and Mary Baldwin College.
