FIELD HOCKEY DOWNED BY HIGHLANDERS

Aurora, NY – The Wells College field hockey team's defense had a strong showing against Houghton, but the Highlander defense had an even stronger showing, not allowing a single shot on net the entire game, as they went on to defeat Wells 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Aurora. Freshmen goaltender Martha Nowlan (Washington, D.C.) was stellar in net facing 15 shots and allowing just two goals. With the loss the Express fall to 0-1 on the season while Houghton improves to 1-1.

The Highlanders got on the board midway through the first half, as Ashley Hoffman took a pass from Jennifer Huyett and found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Express would survive the rest of the half, allowing just five other shots and entering the second half down by one. Houghton would tack on an insurance goal by Ashley Daigler at 43:46. Nowlan would keep the Express close the rest of the way recording all four of her saves in the second half.

The Express will next travel to St. Vincent for the opening round of the St. Vincent Tournament on Saturday, September 5th. Game times have yet to be announced.
