EXPRESS MEN HOLD AT SECOND, WOMEN FOURTH AFTER DAY TWO

(Cobleskill, N.Y.)─ The Wells College men's swim team held second place, while the women's held at fourth place after the second day of the North Eastern Athletic Conference Swimming Championship held Saturday afternoon at SUNY Cobleskill. Gallaudet held a 353-298 lead over Wells on the men's side and held a commanding 382-256 lead over second place Cazenovia College on the women's side.
 
In Wells women's action, Gabby Spencer took first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.97 and first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:07.73. Spencer also helped lead the Express to a first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay (Idolyn Villiotti, Erika Bareiss, Spencer, Britta Kilbourn) with a time of 2:09.21. The relay time placed the team 10th all-time at Wells. Britta Kilbourn placed second in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:21.18 and Villiotti placed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.63. The 400 yard medley relay team, swam by Villiotti, Bareiss, Spencer and Kilbourn, placed second with a time of 4:53.58.
 
On the men's side, the Express were busy re-writing the Wells all-time record books. In the 50 yard freestyle, Matt Sleezer placed second with a time of 23.12, improving his Wells all-time mark by .13 seconds. Sleezer also moved to first on the all-time list in the 100 yard backstroke, placing second with a time of 1:01.64. Chris Guard placed first in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:55.68, which also placed him first all-time at Wells. Drew Teter took first overall in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 57.70.
 
In men's relay action, the Express placed second 200 yard free relay (Teter, Dan Schilling, Taylor Dunn, Sleezer) with a time of 1:35.15, good for first all-time at Wells. The 400 yard medley relay team (Mike Scharvella, Teter, Schilling, Sleezer) placed second with a time of 4:06.76, which also placed them second all-time at Wells. Lastly, the 200 yard medley relay team (Scharvella, Teter, Schilling, Sleezer) took second with a time of 1:49.73, placing them third all-time at Wells.
 
Both teams will conclude the three-day NEAC Championship tomorrow beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the campus of SUNY Cobleskill in Cobleskill, N.Y.
