Coaching Experience:

At Wells (2023-Present)

Joe Horne enters his first season on the coaching staff where he works as the Infield Coach and Assistant Hitting Coach. On game days is responsible for preparing infielders, hitting I/O, and at times is the first base coach, along with other logistical tasks. 

Alfred State Football (Summer 2023-Fall 2023)

Most recently before heading back to alma mater Wells College, Horne was an assistant football coach at Alfred State Football where he was responsible for coaching the defensive backs. During the 2023 football season Alfred State led the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) in interceptions with 16. Alfred State won the ECFC and received a bid to the NCAA DIII Football Playoff where they lost in the First Round to Mount Union.  At the conclusion of the 2023 season two Alfred State Defensive Backs made All-Conference Teams; One First-team and one Second-Team.  

Cortland Crush (Summer 2023)

Horne was the Infield Coach for the Cortland Crush of the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) during the 2023 season. The Cortland Crush made the postseason during the summer of ‘23. 

Past Coaching Experience

While back home on Long Island and throughout his college days, Horne helped coach and run clinics at Long Island Elite Baseball/Common Sense Baseball in Westbury, New York. 

Playing Career:

College

Coach Horne was a 4 year member of the Wells Express baseball program, where he was named captain for his Junior and Senior seasons (2022 and 2023). Throughout his first two and a half seasons Horne was a mainstay at Second Base where he held a fielding percentage of .976% at that spot making three errors in 45 games. Towards the backend of his career Horne moved to Third Base, spot started at Shortstop and even played 21 games in the Outfield where he recorded only one error. Offensively, Horne is currently the program leader in Hit By Pitches with 24 even with two COVID-19 shortened seasons. When it comes to Hit By Pitches, Horne is also tied for most in a game being beaned three times against St. Lawrence during his sophomore year on 3/14/21.  While Wells was a member of the United East Conference for two seasons, Horne had a conference hitting line of 267 AVG/366 OBP/338 SLG in 31 United East contests between the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Career wise Horne finished with an OBP of .342, played in 90 games, 37 Hits, 16 Walks, and accumulated 2 triples. Coach Horne played for two New York Collegiate Baseball League Teams (Genesee Rapids and Dansville Gliders), where he had an NYCBL  OBP of .353 and a fielding percentage of 1.000%. 

High School 

Joe Horne was a 4 year starter in Baseball for the Friends Academy Quakers. During his Senior year (2019), batted .408. Was a captain during Junior and Senior seasons. 

While in High School was a 4 year member of the Quaker football program and was the starting quarterback on varsity for Junior and Senior seasons, along with being named a captain Senior year. Accumulated 1,205 Passing Yards and 10 Passing TD’s throughout varsity football career. 

Played one year of Basketball during Freshman season on Junior varsity.

Personal:

Grew up in Hicksville, New York on Long Island. Attended Friends Academy during high school. Horne graduated from Wells College with a B.A. in Psychology and a Minor in Sports Management. In his free time, enjoys learning about the mental side of sports, staying in touch with former teammates, and watching college sports - specifically college football. Parents are Joia and Andy Horne. Has a brother Colin and a sister Emily.
