MARYWOOD ROLLS OVER EXPRESS

(Scranton, Pa.)─ The Wells College field hockey team fell 5-1 to Marywood University on Wednesday evening in Scranton, Pa. Brittany Stanton (Deposit, N.Y./Deposit) scored the lone goal for the Express, while Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif./Helix) and Amanda Catalano (Lockport, N.Y./Royalton Hartland) combined for six saves in goal.  With the loss the Express fall to 0-2, while Marywood improves to 1-2.  

Brittany Beaton and Julie Dougherty each scored two goals to pace Marywood, while Jamie Bowman earned the win in net finishing with four saves. Marywood held a slight advantage in shots (12-7) and penalty corners (5-4).  

Marywood jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after the first six minutes on goals by Beaton and Nicole Wessner. Despite a two goal deficit, the Express continued to battle as they would keep Marywood off the board the remainder of the first half.  

Marywood again struck early, this time in the second half as Dougherty would score on a penalty corner six minutes into the second half and Beaton would add another goal five minutes later extending their lead to 4-0. Stanton put the Express on the board at 47:40 of the game, blasting a shot from the top of the arc that deflected off a defender and past the goalie to trim the deficit to three, 4-1. The Express were held scoreless the rest of the way and Marywood finished with an insurance goal with less than a minute to play sealing the 5-1 victory.  

The Express return to action on Saturday, September 11 at 12:00 p.m. against Keystone College in Aurora, N.Y.
