Men's Swimming Leads NEAC Meet After Day 1
The Wells College men's swimming team holds the lead in the team standings at the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference championship meet after the opening day of competition Friday, Feb. 15. Wells totaled 115 points and ranks 15 points ahead of second-place Gallaudet at the three-day event hosted by Cazenovia College.
Wells had an event championship in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:34.07. That time ranks 10th-fastest in Wells history and was turned in by the group of Brandon Sprague, Aaron Connolly, Richie Ford, and Bennett Ervin.
Wells started the event finals with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:53.71 by Connolly, Jose Ramirez, Sprague, and Ervin.
In individual events, Ford took second in the 200-yard individual medley. Ford's time of 2:37.66 was a career-best and almost eight seconds faster than his time in the prelims earlier in the day.
Brandon Sprague took third in the event finals of the 500-yard freestyle in 6:22.20. Sprague swam 6:11.35 in the prelims.
Three Wells swimmers placed in the A final of the 50-yard freestyle. Ervin was second in the 50 free finals and earned an All-NEAC finish. He clocked 27.08 seconds in the finals and went 25.37 seconds in the prelims. Jose Ramirez was fifth and Joshua Rose was sixth in the 50 free finals.
