Men’s Swimming Team Finishes with 5 Top-3 Performances on Senior Day

The Wells College men's swimming wrapped up its season by hosting visiting Penn State Behrend on Saturday, April 3.

Aaron Connolly (Freetown, Mass.) was honored on Senior Day after Wells College head coach Trish George told those in attendance about Connolly's success over the past four seasons at Wells, "Aaron swam all four years at Wells and is the swim team captain. He helped his team earn second place at our NEAC championships his freshmen and sophomore years. Aaron is sixth in the 100 breaststroke, seventh in the 200 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 IM on our All-Wells Top-10 Times. And with his teammates he is eighth in the 800 freestyle relay and tenth in the 400 medley relay. One of the things I am going to miss, is Aaron's ability to race. It didn't matter if he came off a long break or if it was warm-up he is always ready."

On the day, Connoly scored nine points for his team after three second-place finishes with two in 50-yard events and the other in a 100-yard event.

Connolly was runner-up in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 34.63, the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.69, and the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.31.

Connolly competed in two of the aforementioned events in Wells' last meet at Cazenovia and in each improved his time. In the 50-yard breaststroke Connoly knocked off 1.61 seconds and in the 100-yard breaststroke, he bested his last official meet score by 5.12 seconds.

Also scoring for the Wells College men's swimming team was freshman Aidan Cort (Clifton Springs, N.Y.) with a pair of points after two third-place finishes.

Cort opened the scoring for Wells in the sixth event with a 2:27.97 time in the 200-yard freestyle and then scored again in the 100-yard freestyle with a 1:04.36 time.

Cort also improved upon his times from the last Wells meet. The first-year swimmer improved his previous 100-yard freestyle time by 7.19 seconds and his 200-yard freestyle time by 13.13 seconds.
