Men’s and Women’s Swimming Compete On Senior Day

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's and women's swimming programs competed against the Bengals of Buffalo State College and North Eastern Athletic Conference rival Cedar Crest College Saturday afternoon at the Wells College Aquatic Center. The Wells women were able to defeat the Falcons of Cedar Crest College by a 129-36 margin but fell to the Bengals by a 114-75 margin. The Wells men were defeated by the Bengals by a 75-16 spread.

This afternoon's meet marked the second-to-last home meet for three graduating senior student-athletes, including men's team captain Matthew Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.), women's team captain Britta Kilbourn (Scotia, N.Y.) and Hallie Hanson (Ashville, N.Y.). They were honored for their contributions to the program in a pre-meet ceremony.

In the first heat of the women's 200 Yard Freestyle, Kilbourn secured a first place finish with a time of 2:21.78 – ultimately, Kilbourn placed third following the second heat as Alison Kolcynzski of Buffalo State and teammate Olive Touron (Cato, N.Y.) drew first and second place finishes, respectively.

Sleezer picked up a first place finish in the men's 50 Yard Freestyle, completing the race with a time of 23.49 to edge his Buffalo State counterpart by only .05 seconds. Later in the meet, Sleezer earned a second place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 52.26, trailing Thomas Mermagen of Buffalo State by only .56 seconds.

Sophomore Hilary Feudale (Coal Township, Pa.) drew top honor in the 100 Yard Backstroke, completing her laps with a time of 1:06.40 to place a full four seconds ahead of the silver finisher. Feudale was also a part of one of the tighter relay finishes on the afternoon as the foursome of freshman Amelia Flint (Bath, N.Y.), sophomore Nina Daniels (Pittsford, N.Y.), Touron and Feudale completed the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay in 1:54.03, finishing ahead of the Buffalo State foursome by only .40 seconds.

The Express round out their home slate of meets this Wednesday, Jan. 15 as they host the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill at 1:00 p.m.
