Late Keuka Rally Sinks Wells Baseball

The Wells College baseball team scored eight runs in the first three innings but Keuka rallied for a 10-8 victory in 10 innings on Sunday, April 28 at the Wells Turf Field.

Keuka scored four runs in the top of the ninth and added two in the 10th.

The first eight runs allowed by Wells were unearned.

Wells got a pair of runs in the first, added one in the second, and tacked on five in the third.

Tyler Young had a sacrifice fly to bring in Jordan VanHerpe and Tanner Dunkel followed with a run-scoring single to plate Mark Yorkey.

Jordan VanHerpe had an RBI single in the second.

In the third, Wells totaled five runs on five hits. It included back-to-back doubles by Dylan Nolan and Tyler Young to start the inning. Anthony Aumick and Kevin Spaeth had RBI singles and A.J. Nesci drove both of them in with a single to right field.

Wells led 8-4 headed to the top of the ninth. The bases were loaded with two outs and an infield error extended the inning. Keuka eventually tied it, then won it in extra innings.

Derek Shea pitched six solid innings. He allowed four unearned runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Johnny Hall, Mark Yorkey, and Alexander Mott pitched in relief.

Nesci had three singles and drove in two runs. VanHerpe had two hits. Aumick scored twice.
