Bio

Kayla Groth has been a member of the Express field hockey program since the 2021 season. She began as a defender and then made the switch to a midfield position while also serving as the backup goalie for the Express. Groth was also named captain during her time as a member of the program. Following the 2023 season, Groth joined the coaching staff as a Student Coach while also completing an internship as the Director of Operations for the Express.

As a member of the Express:

Groth has achieved many accolades and milestones during her time in Aurora, including being a part of the NFHCA National Academic Squad and an NFHCA Division 3 Scholar of Distinction in all 3 of her years at Wells. 

Groth also spent time on the women's lacrosse team, and was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player for Express women's lacrosse in the 2023 season. In addition, she has received 2 Express Athlete of the Week honors, once during the week of 2/23/2021 and once during the week of 2/24/2022.

Groth has also had quite a storied academic career during her time in Aurora, achieving a spot on the Dean's list in every semester from Fall 2020 - Spring 2024 while. An English major with a concentration in creative writing, Groth is also an exemplary figure in the realm of story creation, and was presented with the 2021 Helena M. Zachos Prize in Short Story Writing at the Wells College Honors Award Ceremony, awarded for excellence in short story writing. Along with her aptitude for the world of writing, Groth practices her passion regularly as the Editor in Chief of the Wells Chronicle. She is also a member of the Pride Club here at Wells. 

 

In High School:

Groth had an outstanding athletic and academic career at Brockport High School. She participated in 1 season of varsity track and field for the Blue Devils, taking part in many distance and sprinting events. Groth managed to achieve Excelsior Honor Roll for every year of her high school career (2016-2020) and displayed model academic tendencies throughout all of her time at Brockport. 

 

Personal:

Groth is from Brockport, New York. She is the daughter of Holly and Alfred Groth and likes to spend time with her grandparents and extended family. During her free time she also enjoys reading and creative writing.
