Men's and Women's Swimming Opens Against SUNYIT

(Aurora, N.Y.)─ The Wells College men's and women's swim teams opened up their 2010-2011 regular season on Friday evening against the SUNY IT Wildcats. The women's team won in impressive fashion, defeating the Wildcats 102-13. In men's action, the Express fell in the final heat of the night as the Wildcats squeaked by with a 95-82 victory.
 
The women's team took first in all ten events. Gwenn Lillie placed first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 14:18.01. Gabby Spencer earned first place in the 200 yard freestyle (2:20.11) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:11.26). Idolyn Villiotti placed first in the 50 yard freestyle (28.95) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:12.57). Caitlin Farris placed first in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 3:35.58. Molly Heslin earned a first place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:17.04. Britta Kilbourn took first in the 500 yard freestyle (6:47.78), while the 200 yard freestyle relay team rounded out the scoring, placing first with a time of 2:00.32.
 
In men's team action, Matt Sleezer broke the 50 yard freestyle record with a time of 23:25. The 200 yard medley relay team (Drew Teter, Matt Sleezer, Dan Schilling, Taylor Dunn) took first with a time of 1:52.57. Drew Teter placed first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:16.13) and the 100 yard freestyle (56.71), while Dan Schilling took first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.01.
 
The men's and women's swim teams return to the pool next on Saturday, Nov. 6 against SUNY Brockport at 1 p.m. in Brockport.
