Men's Swimmers Make Marks On Record Boards In Dual Meet

The Wells College men's swimming team put five improved times on its all-time top-10 lists over four different events on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the Schwartz Center swimming pool. Wells hosted its final home meet of the 2016-17 season against Penn State-Altoona and the visiting Lions came away with a 77-17 win.

Lucas Donnenwirth placed second in the 1,650-yard freestyle event with a time of 21 minutes, 19.28 seconds. That time is three seconds better than his previous best in the event and ranks sixth in Wells history.

Two top-10 times were established in the 400-yard individual medley. Ian Ronan placed third with a time of 5:22.74 and Arthur Brooks was fourth with a time of 5:41.34. Ronan's time was 20 seconds faster than his previous best, and moved into sixth on the all-time list. Brooks moved into eighth on the top-10 list in the event.

Austin Heil swam 5:32.97 in the 500-yard freestyle and placed second. His time ranks fifth in Wells men's swimming history in the event.

The other top-10 performance came from Tyler Lewis in the 200-yard breaststroke. He finished in 2:49.76

All five of the milestone performances were career-best times for the Wells swimmers.

The Express returns to action this weekend with a Saturday, Jan. 21 meet at Cazenovia College at 1 p.m.
