Women's Tennis Drops 8-1 Contest To Elmira

AURORA, N.Y. – Despite a victory at No. 2 singles by Caitlyn Copfer (Clinton, N.Y.), the Wells College women's tennis team posted an 8-1 defeat at the hands of Elmira College Wednesday afternoon at the Wells College tennis courts. With the loss, the Express fall to 0-3 in the fall season while the Soaring Eagles collect their first win to improve to 1-4.

Copfer made quick work of Melanie Walker, dispatching her in two sets (6-2, 6-2) at No. 2 singles. Walker and teammate Amy Schmidt secured revenge at No. 1 doubles, ousting both Copfer and junior Brittany Vanno (Whitesboro, N.Y.) by an 8-5 margin. At No. 3 singles, senior Kelly Pietruch (Whitesboro, N.Y.) had a 6-2 first set victory but relinquished the next two stanzas (6-0, 6-1) to challenger Kayla Fitzgerald.
