Copfer, Pietruch Scale History Books In 8-1 Victory vs. Lancaster Bible

LITITZ, Pa. – The Wells College women's tennis team captured victories in all but one of their nine matches on the afternoon as they posted an 8-1 victory over the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College Saturday afternoon at Linden Hall School. With the victory, the Express improve to 2-7 overall on the season and collect their first North Eastern Athletic Conference victory of the season. The Chargers fall to 1-5 overall on the year and to 0-2 within league play.

With a victory at No. 1 singles against Carmin Nachtigal, senior Caitlyn Copfer (Clinton, N.Y.) collected the 21st singles victory of her career to tie her for third place all-time in program history with Ali Nolan '09. The victory at No. 1 singles was Copfer's first collegiate win in that slot. Classmate Kelly Pietruch (Whitesboro, N.Y.), who partnered with freshman Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) at No. 3 doubles, was able to crack the program's top-10 list with her 13th career doubles win.

At No. 3 singles, Ayumi Takeuchi (Eniwa, Hokkaido, Japan) posted a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Bri Funk for her first collegiate victory. Freshmen Taryn Heath (Homer, N.Y.) and Kevisha Hunt (Germantown, Md.) each picked up their first collegiate wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Takeuchi and Copfer combined for the 8-6 doubles victory in the No. 1 slot while junior Brittany Vanno (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and Heath posted an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
