Middlebrook Named NEAC Runner Of The Year; WXC Places Third At NEAC Championships

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Sophomore Emily Middlebrook (Newark, N.Y.) led the field of 87 runners as the Wells College women's cross country squad posted a third place finish at the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship Saturday afternoon at Lorimer Park. With her first place overall finish, Middlebrook collects NEAC Runner of the Year recognition for the second straight year. The Express finish in third place as a team for the second straight season as well with three different players named to All Conference teams.

By posting a time of 21:52 across the 5K course, Middlebrook also was the recipient of First Team All-Conference honors for the second straight season, while senior Brienne Goodson (Deansboro, N.Y.) was recognized with a Third Team All-Conference nod for placing 15th overall with a time of 24:50, averaging an 8:00 mile. Freshman Katie Lamanna (Constableville, N.Y.) also drew Third Team All-Conference recognition, posting a time of 25:14 to rank third on the Express.

Last season, Goodson and sophomore Lindsey Guzewicz (Auburn, N.Y.) received Second Team All-Conference honors. In 2010, Goodson led the Express with a time of 22:43, collecting Third Team All-Conference honors for the first time.

Freshman Liza Gerwig (Painted Post, N.Y.) placed 23rd amongst the field, recording a time of 25:42 on the 5K course. Sophomore Anastasia Benson (Rockford, Ill.) placed only seven seconds behind Gerwig, placing 24th with a time of 25:49. Guzewicz ranked 27th with a time of 25:55 with freshman Jessica Bye (Jordan, N.Y.) finishing two places behind Guzewicz, turning in a time of 26:06.

Sophomore Veronica Frisenda (Patterson, Calif.) placed 36th, contributing a time of 26:32. Freshman Davina Jones (Gouverneur, N.Y.) placed 53rd with a time of 28:09 while senior Sarah Deschenes (Keene, N.H.) rounded out the Express runners with a time of 31:03.
