Wells Express Volleyball Heads West!

The Wells College women's volleyball teams kicked off their West Coast trip with two games at Pacific University on Friday.

First up for the Express was George Fox University. George Fox played a dominant game against the Express never letting them score more than 11 points in a set. Elise Peacock led Wells with 3 total kills followed by Ellie Te with 2. Roosa Armstead-Lehtio also had 5 digs. George Fox won in three straight sets. 

The second Friday game was against the Linfield University Wildcats. In the first set, Wells was right there with the Wildcats. After being behind, 19-13, the Express fought back to make it 21-19. A late kill from Ellie Te was not enough to save the first set and the Express lost 25-22. In the second set, Wells hung right with the Wildcats almost all the way through. When the score was 20-19, Wells Committed a service error then Linfield scored 5 straight points to win 25-19. Fatigue set in for the sixth set of the day for Wells and Linfield won 25-17. Miah Williamson led the Express with 9 kills and Ellie Te had 8. Brianah Dawson also had 15 assists.

Two more games were on the docket for Wells on Saturday at George Fox University. First, against Lewis and Clark College.

The first set was evenly played to an 11-11 score but after that, Lewis & Clark took the lead and never looked back grabbing a win by a score of 25-17. The Express would not go away quietly in the second set when the score was 20-15 and they rattled off four more points including a kill from Alycia Wilson. Lewis & Clark won the second set, 25-19. The third set was competitive until the final point. Neither team grabbed a lead of more than two points throughout. Serves from Brianah Dawson and Lexi Carfi kept the Express in this one late but the Express fell 3-0 to Lewis & Clarke. 

The Willamette Bearcats were the final game of the road trip for Wells College. Wells took a 2-0 lead to start the first set but did not lead again for the rest of the set. Lexi Carfi, Alycia Wilson, Ellie Te, and Miah Williamson all had kills. In the second set, neither team took a large lead and traded the lead multiple times up to the score of 12-12. From there the Bearcats went on a 6-1 run and built a lead. Elise Peacock registered a kill to try and spark the Express back into this one but Willamette won the second set, 25-17. Roosa Armstead-Lehti gave the Express an early third-set lead with a service ace. Miah Willamson and Elise Peacock both tallied multiple kills to keep the Express close in the third set but In the final match of their trip, the Express fell three games to none. 

Up next, women's volleyball will head to Keuka College on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match.
