'On This Day' Four Men’s Soccer Team Seniors Go Out with a Win on Senior Day

Wells College honors past and present seniors this week by spotlighting current fall student-athletes and looking back on past Senior Days.

Aurora, N.Y. ─ The Wells College men's soccer team finished their season on a high note, shutting out North Eastern Athletic Conference opponent SUNY Cobleskill by a score of 3-0 Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, in Aurora on Senior Day.

Braden Allen, Blasdimil Gomez, John Iapoce and Cody Glassman were all honored as the four Wells College seniors from the men's soccer team.

Gomez, Patrick Sodums, and Patrick Arancio all scored, while J.P. Rosas added an assist to lead the Express. With the victory Wells ends their season at 5-9-3 (3-4-2 NEAC).

On a day that honored Wells seniors, it was only appropriate that one of those senior's - Blasdimil Gomez - got the scoring started for the Express. Battling on the left side of goal in the Fighting Tigers end, Gomez made a step over move past his defender and fired a shot past Cobleskill goalie Mack Curran for a 1-0 Express lead.

The Express continued to overpower the Fighting Tiger's defense, this time Rosas drew the defense down low on the left side of the goal and sent a pass back through to the middle of the 18, finding Sodums who delivered a shot to the back of the net for a commanding 2-0 lead that would hold heading into the second half.

Arancio put the finishing touches on an impressive day for the Express, scoring on a loose ball with 14 minutes to play as the Express cruised to the shutout victory.

Express goalie C.J. Bayly finished win one save to earn the shutout in goal, while Curran finished with eight saves for the Fighting Tigers. For the game, Wells held the advantage in shots 21-3 and corner kick 8-3.
