Women’s Swimming Edged By Utica, 130-107

UTICA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's swimming team posted a 130-107 loss to the Pioneers of Utica College Saturday afternoon at the Utica College Pool. With the loss, Wells falls to 0-3 in head-to-head meets in 2013 while Utica (2-4) collects its second victory of the young season.

Freshman Amelia Flint (Bath, N.Y.) earned the first top finish on the afternoon for the Express, completing the 200 Yard Freestyle in 2:19.01, earning nine points for the team. Junior Olive Touron (Cato, N.Y.) placed second behind Flint, notching a time of 2:32.60 to earn an additional four points for the Express.

Sophomore Hilary Feudale (Coal Township, Pa.) earned a first place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke, completing the event in 1:06.23. Classmate Nina Daniels (Pittsford, N.Y.) squeaked out a second place finish in the same event, edging Gwyn Joyce of Utica by .12 seconds to earn four points for Wells.

Feudale was at it again in the 50 Yard Freestyle, securing nine points for Wells with a season-best 26.55 finish. Her third and final individual event of the afternoon, the 200 Yard Backstroke, earned her another first place finish (2:27) on the day.

Flint continued her strong streak of finishes, placing second in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:02.86, trailing the first place Mikey Maxwell of Utica by just under :02 seconds. She later earned silver in the 500 Yard Freestyle event, placing second with a time of 6:14.37 for Wells.

In one of the closest events of the afternoon, the foursome of Flint, Daniels, Touron and Feudale narrowly missed a first place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. The Wells team completed the relay in 1:51.99, trailing Utica's top time of 1:50.91 by just over a second.

Wells returns to action Saturday, Nov. 16 as the women's team hosts the College of St. Elizabeth in a 1:00 p.m. meet.
