Daniels Earns First-Ever NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week Award

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – In recognition of her strong performance on Saturday, Nov. 16 against the College of St. Elizabeth, sophomore Nina Daniels (Pittsford, N.Y.) of the Wells College women's swimming team earned North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career. Daniels and the Express collected a 48-47 victory over the Screaming Eagles, their first of the young season (1-3).

Daniels had a hand in 17 total points for the Express on Saturday, leading all Wells players in that category. She began her afternoon with a first place finish in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle, completing the race with a time of 12:21.55 to earn five points for Wells. In the 500 Yard Freestyle, Daniels once again placed first with a time of 6:02.31 and securing an additional five points for the Express.

As part of the foursome in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Daniels swam second for the Express en route to a first place finish (4:12.01) in the final event. The seven points that the team earned was just enough to collect a one point victory over the Screaming Eagles.

Last season, Daniels earned First Team All-Conference honors in the 200, 400 and 800 Yard Freestyle Relays for Wells and picked up individual Second Team All-Conference honors in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle at the NEAC Championships earlier this year. In the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay at the NEAC Championships on Feb. 16, 2013, Daniels joined classmate Hilary Feudale (Coal Township, Pa.), Meghan Terry and junior Olive Touron (Cato, N.Y.) to set the fastest time in program history in that event.

Wells returns to action Saturday, Dec. 7 as they face-off against Ferrum College and Gallaudet University at 1:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
