EXPRESS CLOSE SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER FIGHTING TIGERS

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Wells College men's soccer team closed out their 2011 season on winning note, defeating the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in Cobleskill, N.Y. Senior Justin Rigney (New York, N.Y.) finished with three goals and senior Jonathan Mulcahey (Fulton, N.Y.) added one goal to lead the Express. With the victory the Express finish 7-10 (4-6 NEAC), while the Fighting Tigers fall to 5-13 (3-7 NEAC).

The Fighting Tigers struck first in the 30th minute off a goal from Grantley Mcleod. The Express responded as Mulcahey sent a shot into the back of the goal off a corner kick from Levi Christman (Sharon Springs, N.Y.) to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the second half of play.

Rigney broke the 1-1 tie in the 58th minute scoring on a penalty shot and would add his second goal ten minutes later on blast inside the box, giving Wells a 3-1 lead. The Fighting Tigers climbed to within one goal in the 69th minute but, Rigney put the game away with less than ten minute to play, beating the goalie on a 1-on-1 situation for a 4-2 lead that would hold as the game's final score. 

The Express held the advantage in shots (21-11) and corner kicks (7-2). Express goalie David Kaus (Erie, Pa.) finished with two saves, while his counterpart Brian Faulkner finished seven saves in the loss.
