BLANFORD AND STONE LEAD EXPRESS OVER WILSON

AURORA, N.Y.Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.) scored two goals and Paige Stone (Madison, N.Y.) added one goal and one assist as the Wells College women's soccer team rolled past the Wilson College Phoenix 5-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon in Chambersburg, Pa. Megan Lawrence (Scipio Center, N.Y.) earned the shutout in goal for the Express with seven saves. With the victory the Express improve to 5-10 (3-6 NEAC), while the Phoenix fall to 1-12 on the year.

Blanford put the Express ahead 15-minutes into the first half and extended the lead to 2-0 off an assist from Stone in the 31st minute. The Express continue to roll in the first half, Stone found the back of the net for her only goal of the game in the 37th minute and Sarah Spezzano (Mumford, N.Y.) put the finishing touches on an impressive half, scoring with less three minutes to play in the first, extending the Wells lead to 4-0.

Wells continued to dominate in the second half, firing 12 shots on net but it wouldn't be until the final minute of the game that Alanna Verderber (Sharon Springs, N.Y.) found the back of the net for the game's final score of 5-0.

The Express held the advantage in shots 29-10 and corner kicks 6-2.

Wells returns to action next on Saturday when the take on NEAC foe Morrisville State at 1 p.m. in Aurora.
