Manee, Cronk Record Quality Innings As Express Stay Hot in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Yesterday, the Wells College baseball squad got their bats back in action as their offense exploded in a dominating performance against Clarks Summit. Today, the missing piece of the puzzle was found in a huge way as Express hurlers Nick Manee and Zack Cronk combined for 9 innings of quality work in a very complete 10-3 victory over Plymouth State.

In the midst of a long stretch of games for the Express, Manee and Cronk came up huge, not only shutting down the Panthers for 9 innings but also preserving a depleted Express bullpen that still has more games to come in this grueling spring break gauntlet.

Sophomore Nick Manee got things started for the boys from Aurora, manning the mound for 5 quality innings, and striking out 4 Panthers while only allowing 2 runs over the first chunk of the matchup. Manee's performance was a much needed boost on the day, as he compensated very well for a Wells side that commited 4 errors in the field. Although as a whole, the Express still managed to get timely outs and keep Plymouth State off the board on many occasions.

Junior Zack Cronk from nearby Newfield, NY relieved Manee in the 6th inning and picked up right where the starter left off, allowing 1 run on 2 hits and stiking out 3 Panthers over the course of his spectacular 4-inning outing.

The Express pitching staff wasn't the only group that had it going at the Ripken Experience on Wednesday afternoon, as Max Odum and the offense kept up their stellar streak from yesterday, putting up double-digit runs for the second game in a row.

Odum went 2-for-5 and knocked in 3 RBI, all 3 of which came in a big 2nd inning. With the bases juiced, Odum ripped a ball that landed him on 3rd with a bases-clearing triple. The 3-bagger launched him into a tie for most triples in Express history with former Wells standout Anthony Aumick. Both players now top the Express leaderboards with 11 triples each.

Aaron Izquierdo and Lance Phillips also had good games at the plate, each going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Express will look to continue their steadfast form tomorrow against Olivet University in what will be their 5th and 6th games in just 4 days. That doubleheader is set for 6:00 and 9:00 PM at the Ripken Experience.
