Wells Baseball Drops 2 Against Mounties in Windy Weekend Series

CRESSON, PA - The Express baseball squad fell on Saturday in a wild doubleheader against a cruising Mounties squad by scores of 10-3 and 14-0. Both games were played in extremely windy conditions which were giving the broadcasting department fits throughout the matchups. It seems that the effect of the wind was also felt by the Express, who couldn't get it going on either side of the diamond.

Wells was outhit 29-11 over the span of the two matchups, and only managed to score 3 runs over the two game set. The Express offense has been streaky as of late, but has been prone to exploding at random intervals, allowing the Express to erase deficits or take huge leads in the blink of an eye. Sadly on Saturday, they couldn't find the spark that ignited their offensive production in the last 3 games.

On the mound, Zack Cronk had a good showing in relief during game 1. Cronk currently boasts one of the lowest ERA's on the Express pitching staff at 2.86, all while throwing the most total innings so far this season with 28.1 frames pitched. Cronk backed these numbers up on Satuday, recording yet another in a long line of superb bullpen performances for the Express relievers over the last couple of weeks. In Saturday's first matchup, Cronk threw 4 innings of relief, allowing only 3 hits to pair with 2 strikeouts. The junior from nearby Newfield, New York also managed to keep the Mounties off of the scoreboard for the last 4 frames, giving the Express an opportunity to rally despite their quiet offensive day.

The Express managed more hits in game 2 despite being shutout in the defeat.

Jacobi James kept up his stellar season, going 3-for-6 on the day with a double and a home run. James has been a revelation at the plate this season, and has been a huge point of consistency through some unconsistent offensive performances for Wells.

The Express will look to get back on track when they welcome the Alfred State Pioneers to town. Wells has another chance to get back to .500 in conference play in what is their first season in the AMCC.
