Colossal 1st Innings Lead Stevens, Express to 7th & 8th Straight Victories

At the start of the 2024 season, Express baseball head coach Ryan Stevens described the style of play that he wanted to see this year in one word; quick. Never was that more evident than in the two powerful victories that the Express picked up on Thursday night against the Alfred University Saxons by scores of 11-6 and 20-0.

The Express started off on an absolute tear in the two matchups, slugging their way to 2, 9-run innings to begin each of the sets. They kept up their streak of nonstop scoring, recording their 9th and 10th games with over 8 runs. Another streak that continued was the now 8-game win streak that dates back to the conclusion of spring break. With these 8 important wins, the Express matched their win total from last year while also making some history along the way.

Head Coach Ryan Stevens picked up his 47th and 48th wins on Thursday evening, cementing him in Express baseball history by achieving the all-time record for wins as an Express head coach. Not only did he achieve the milestone, but he also did it through his team's fast and furious play, something the Express are building a reputation for.

The fast-paced wins included 9 total stolen bases, including two each by the AMCC standout twins Max Odum and Zack Odum.

The Express also saw some amazing hitting outings by some players who have been in amazing form throughout the season so far.

One of these sensational sluggers was Jacobi James, who sports a team-leading .444 average. James improved this already amazing average by going 4-for-5 with 3 walks, and 4 RBI over the course of the doubleheader.

Chris Mclean also saw his average skyrocket over the .400 mark, as he batted 4-for-5 with 2 walks, and 3 RBI.

The Express offense had many noteworthy contributors in game 2, with Kyle Ketchum knocking in a game-high 4 RBI, Max Odum snagging 3 RBI, and a whole slew of Express batters getting 2 RBI.

Nick Manee got the game 1 win, with reliever Jonathan Haines getting the save in relief.

Game 2 was a pitching masterclass from ace Zander Johnson who was 2 outs away from the 5-inning, complete game no-hitter. Johnsons posted an incredible 0 runs allowed on 1 hit with 5 strikouts in the 5-inning outing.

The Express are firing on all cylinders as they look towards their first week of AMCC conference play.
