ROBERTS SCORES TWICE IN LOSS TO ST. JOHN FISHER

(Pittsford, N.Y.)─ St. John Fisher fought off a late rally by the Wells College Express and held on for the 3-2 victory in non-conference men's soccer action Tuesday in Pittsford. Delroy Roberts (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) scored twice in the final ten minutes to lead the Express. William Salter, Stefan John and Matt Guinto all scored to lead St. John Fisher. The loss drops the Express to 4-6-2 on the year, while the Cardinals improve to 2-7-2.

Salter put the Cardinals up first, blasting a shot from 30 yards out on the right side for a 1-0 advantage at 24:20. The Cardinals extended their lead 12 minutes later on goal by John as they would head into the break with a 2-0 lead.

The Cardinals continued to pressure in the second half, drawing a foul inside the box that led to a penalty shot goal by Guinto, giving the Cardinals a commanding 3-0 lead with 24 minutes to play.

Despite the three goal deficit the Express continued to battle. Roberts put the Express on the board, heading a shot into the goal on cross from Patrick Arancio (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton), trimming the lead to 3-1 with ten minutes to play. Roberts again found the net, driving to the left side of the goal and sneaking a shot past Kyle Metcalfe to climb within one goal (3-2) with 54 seconds to play. It would be too little too late for the Express, who were unable to score the equalizer before time ran out.

For the game, the Cardinals held the advantage in shots on goal 10-4 and corner kicks 8-1.

The Express will look to bounce back Saturday in a crucial North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) showdown against SUNY IT at 2:00 p.m.in Utica.
