Chen Named NEAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Vincent Chen was named the North Eastern Athletic Association's Male Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season for his results this past weekend.

Chen had the best performance from the Wells College men's swimming team in a tri-meet against Buffalo State College and the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford on Jan. 11.

The freshman competed in three races and won the 50-yard breaststroke with a 32.77 time.

Although Chen had just one victory on the day, his other two performances were worthy of note. In the 100-yard IM, Chen recorded a time of 1:03.14. That time would have been the best time in the school's history and made the Wells College top-10 list had he not had a better time earlier this season.

In the freshman's other event, he set a personal record in the 100-yard freestyle that placed him on that event's Wells College top-10 list at No. 8.

Chen then took the 10th overall best time in school history in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.23 on Jan. 14 at Penn State Altoona.

With the addition of adding his name to two top-10 times this past week, Chen has reached nine, top-10 times this season. In addition to this week's eighth spot in the 100 Free and tenth spot in the 100 Breast, he is first in the 100 IM (1:02.17), third in the 100 Back (1:02.02), fourth in the 200 Back (2:22.26) and 400 IM (5:04.95), sixth in the 100 Fly (1:01.41), eighth in the 200 Free (2:03.02) and ninth in the 200 IM (2:27.58).

In addition to today's announcement, Chen was also recognized as the NEAC's Male Swimmer of the Week twice in November. Chen received NEAC honors in back-to-back weeks on Nov. 19 and Nov. 26.
