Women's Soccer Halted By Keuka, 4-1

AURORA, N.Y. – Freshman Madison Maloney (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal in the second half as the Wells College women's soccer team posted a 4-1 loss to the Wolfpack of Keuka College on Saturday at the North Athletic Field. With the loss, Wells falls to 0-2 on the season while drawing their first loss in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. Keuka (1-2, 1-0 NEAC) secures their first league victory of the young season.

Trailing by a 3-0 margin, Maloney flicked home a feed from classmate Yanna Ososkalo (Lyme, N.Y.) as she received a ball from right to left that eluded the grasp of Keuka goalkeeper Kenna Kosinski. Ososkalo exited play on Saturday tied for the league lead in assists. Down 3-1 in the 63rd minute, Wells applied heavy pressure in the second half and outshot the visiting Wolfpack by an 8-to-7 margin but the deficit at halftime was too much to overcome.

Nicole Browe scored two of her team's three first-half goals. Carly Sanford led off the game with a goal in the first 83 seconds, scoring off of a corner kick by Kayla Spraggins by tapping the feed home near side. Sarah Hartman added a goal in the game's final 16 seconds to add insurance down the stretch.

Wells goalkeeper Quinn Doubet (Cortland, N.Y.) made four saves in the losing effort. Kosinski picked up the victory after turning aside five-of-six shots on goal that she faced.

The Express return to action Wednesday, Sept. 10 as they face-off against Alfred State College in a 6 p.m. road contest.
