Women's Soccer Drops 2OT Contest To Hilbert

AURORA, N.Y. – Junior Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season as the Wells College women's soccer team posted a 2-1 double-overtime loss to the Hawks of Hilbert College on Tuesday at the North Athletic Field. With the loss, Wells evens its overall record at 4-4 while Hilbert improves to 3-4 following the non-conference tilt.

Imarie Waller scored her first goal of the season for Hilbert with only 3:55 left on the clock in the second overtime. An initial blast on goal by Jackie Morgan of the Hawks was stopped by the Wells backstop. Waller forced home the rebound after the Wells defense was unable to generate a clear. The double-overtime loss was Wells' first since a 2-1 defeat at Keuka on Oct. 9, 2013.

Hiltbrand's eighth goal of the season came in the 41st minute as a right-to-left cross from freshman Yanna Ososkalo (Lyme, N.Y.) was forced home past Grace Adams. Robbi Bailey scored the equalizer for Hilbert at 59:55 as she collected a pass from Chelsea Olson and carried the ball around the upended Wells backstop for the open net score.

Hilbert outshot the Express by a 26-to-23 margin and ultimately held the 8-to-4 edge on corner kicks. Wells goalkeepers made 12 combined saves in the contest while Hilbert, as a team, posted nine saves that included a team save by a Hawks defender.

Freshman Quinn Doubet (Cortland, N.Y.) drew the loss, allowing one goal in 24:25 minutes of action. Classmate Abbigail Kime (Geneva, N.Y.) earned the start and allowed one goal on 10 shots before yielding to Doubet near the midpoint of the second half. Adams secured the win with an eight save performance in 106:05 of action.

The Express return to action Saturday, Sept. 27 as they face-off against the SUNY Institute of Technology in a high noon contest on the road.
