Freshman Spotlight : Isabella Ciancio

The Wells College athletics department closes out the 2020 calendar year with a series of first-year freshmen athlete profiles. Today's feature is women's volleyball front rower Isabella Ciancio.

Isabella Ciancio is a freshman on the Wells College women's volleyball team. The Clinton, N.Y. native is a health science major on a pre-veterinary medicine track, while minoring in women and gender studies. Isabella is one of two new hitters for head coach Mark Lucas.

Isabella was a multi-sport athlete at Clinton High School, where she combined for six seasons in volleyball, and two in track and field. As a member of the Clinton figure Skating Club, she spent eight seasons in ice competition.

Isabella concentrated on volleyball during her senior campaign as the lone sport she competed in and finished her volleyball career with one of the team's top serving percentages in leading her team to sectional playoffs in both her final two seasons. Her last season in track and field helped bring a sectional championship to Clinton.

Isabella was active in the Clinton community. Academically, she was a member of the National Honor Society and the Regional Program for Excellence, where she completed an internship at a veterinary hospital. Recognized for distinguished community service in receiving her advanced NYS Regents diploma, Isabella received academic excellence awards in foreign language and music from Clinton High School and was a member of both the Clinton Chamber Orchestra and the Clinton Chamber Singers.

What stands out from Isabella's first season at Wells was net play against her new teammates.

Coach Lucas added, "From the first day of practice, it was clear that Izzy was on a mission to improve. In addition to her impressive work ethic, she is extremely positive both on and off the court."
