Freshman Spotlight : Lauren Frias

The Wells College athletics department closes out the 2020 calendar year with a series of first-year freshmen athlete profiles. Today's feature is women's volleyball outside hitter Lauren Frias.

Lauren Frias is a freshman on the Wells College women's volleyball team. The Bronx, N.Y. health sciences biology major is one of three new outside hitters for head coach Mark Lucas.

Lauren came from University Heights High School, where she spent three seasons playing volleyball from her sophomore year through her senior year. Her versatility and value to her team was evident through the variety of roles and positions she played for her high school team.

Lauren played at the top high school classification level and despite the team's jump to the top division during her senior year, she helped bring them to the cusp of a playoff berth.

What stands out from Lauren 's first season at Wells was her improvement in serving the ball and instruction she received that enhanced her serving abilities.

Coach Lucas added, "Lauren is very hard working and pushes herself to get better every day. She comes early to practice and always wants to be in the gym. Plus, she's got a great sense of humor."
